'This is a crazy fucking life!' she thought to herself as she carried in one of the many boxes that contained dishes into the "big house". There were 5 families moving into the 5 bedroom, 3 bath house although the upstairs in the garage was being turned into several bedrooms. They were all very close, sure, but she was still on the fence about them all moving into one house together. Between them there were 11 adults, 5 children, 10 small dogs, 6 big dogs, 1 medium sized dog, 7 personal vehicles, 5 race cars with trailers, and a fuel truck for the trucking company the "patriarch" owned.
It was a very crazy few weeks to say the least and the work wasn't over yet! There were still several more trucks to be unloaded, tons of boxes yet to be unpacked, and contsruction yet to be completed. She stopped on the back porch and looked around with a heavy sigh. Tonight would be the first night they had all spent together in this house and she was curious to see how it would go. Her mom and step dad, Val and Doug respectively, were sitting in the living room with Harry & Marsha. They were the parents of Lynn & Renee, with Lynn & her hubby Robert already living in the big house with them and their 2 kids. Confused yet?!
Harry and Marsha were renting the "big house" as everyone called it from Doug and Val. Lynn, Robert and their 2 kids lived there too. Since the incident everyone was moving into it with them as well. Doug's great-nephew Johnny, Johnny's 2 boys Dakota and Cole, as well as her and her daughter Cheyenne, and Doug's slightly mentally challenged grandson Mark, and close friends of the large group Karol and Derryl were moving in as well. 16 people total in the house/garage. It was going to be quite a tight fit but they had considered all other options and figured this was the best one.
Everyone who held jobs outside of Doug's trucking company, being Derryl, Harry & Robert, had to take some time off to help move everyone into the house. Unless it was "big stuff" like moving heavy furniture, the women would be responsible for getting the house/garage together. Doug stated that perhaps they would expand the house and garage to make more room for everyone but that would take time after they got the house settled. 4 houses condensing into 1 was quite a feat!
She sat on the porch as everyone took a break to have lunch. She was informed by her step father that because space was very limited she would not only be sharing "her" room with his great nephew but the pair would be sharing her bed while his 2 kids would be sharing the futon her daughter slept on since it turned into a queen sized bed. Her daughter would be taking Dakota's bed from their "old" house. It didn't bother her much, he was a decent looking guy, she just didn't know how he was going to react to having to share her space!
The chatter was semi-cheerful, moving was stressful enough and having to move so much with so little time was damn near impossible, but she remained silent. Some of the guys eventually got to talking about the race cars which made her roll her eyes. Her friend, and now house-mate, Lynn sat down in the chair closest to her. They made small talk while they ate but all to soon it was time to get back to work. Robert, Lynn, Johnny, his boys, her and her daughter would be sleeping in the living room until the garage was completed.
Doug and Val were sharing the master bedroom with Harry & Marsha, after much discussion, so the 2 ladies were trying to get their room rearranged to accomodate things. Karol & Derryl were taking one of the small bedrooms, Dean and Thomas were taking another although they were not too happy about it, Dakota and Cole were taking another small bedroom while Cheyenne being the only girl child, took the final room. People were very squished but they tried to make the best out of it. Lynn, herself, Johnny, and Robert would be the only ones in the garage but they had all sat down and discussed who would be sleeping where. Although both her and Johnny thought they would at least have their "own" space!
They worked until well after the sun had set trying to get as much done as they could before stopping for the night. The large group opted to head out to the local cafe to have a late dinner before calling it a night. She found herself situated between Johnny and Mark at the table but stayed silent. She helped keep an eye on the kids, even though Cheyenne and Dean were 12, simply because she didn't have much else to do. Johnny's kids were the youngest of the group at 7 (Dakota) and 5 (Cole) although Lynn's youngest was 8. She listened to his voice and found herself beginning to smile. He had a lovely voice, just deep enough to know he was a man but not too deep.
Once they returned to their over-filled house, everyone dispersed to try and get some rest. Johnny and Krista took the couches after getting the 3 kids settled on pallets on the floor. It was a light oak hardwood but it wasn't too cold, especially with the blankets they had folded on the floor for them to lay on. She lay there, unable to get to sleep immediately, as her thoughts returned to him. He was tall, about 5'9 or 5'10, gorgeous almost auburn red hair that came to just above his shoulders, bright chocolate eyes, he was slim but his arms were pretty toned, and he had a gorgeous smile even if he didn't want to show it off all that much.
She found him quite attractive but was keeping that bit of information to herself. She'd been told his ex-wife had royally fucked him over and hurt him pretty severely which he still hadn't fully gotten over. It made her sad to hear that she had found a bit on the side, and couldn't understand how anyone could cheat on such a hottie as him!, and then abandoned both him and his adorable little boys. He wasn't interested in finding someone else, only working and raising his boys. 'Too bad', she thought to herself bitterly. Well, he'll have to get used to her, she figured, since they would be roommates for an undeterminable amount of time. Finally she drifted off to a restless sleep.

She woke up to her alarm signalling it was time to get the kids up for school. Dakota and Cole went to the public school in town while Cheyenne, Dean, & Thomas went to a charter school in the next town over. She reluctantly threw her blanket off right as his alarm went off. His sleepy grumble brought a small smile to her face before she turned to her daughter. She watched out of the corner of her eye as he stood up. His plain black cotton pj bottoms sat on his hips exquisitely, the white t-shirt he wore to bed was a little too small for him and it clung to his slim frame. His red hair was slightly messed up from sleeping but he looked adorable right after he woke up.
The kids began to move around to get their clothes ready and their backpacks packed so she got their breakfasts of cereal and fruit ready. As the kids were eating their breakfast, most of the rest of the adults started getting up. Lynn took the 3 kids to school while Johnny took his 2. While they were gone, Krista got to work on making breakfast. When Karol entered the kitchen she got to work helping with the food. They needed alot to feed the group. Everyone's help was needed to keep this massive household working and in good order.
For now they were using paper plates, cups & plasticware so they wouldn't have to use the real dishes until everything was unpacked and settled. As a matter of fact they would be placing a second dishwasher and stove in the house to help. After all there were 16 people who needed to be fed daily! There were already 2 full sized fridges in the house and there were 3 freezers that would be in use as well with more ready to be plugged in and used at a moment's notice!
By the time Lynn and Johnny had returned breakfast was being set out. Her friend smiled appreciatively as she was handed an empty plate to get her breakfast. They had another very busy day ahead of them, still moving things in and re-arranging. That was just the house, there was still major work to be done to the garage for it to be ready for the foursome to move in to it! She sighed heavily as she walked out onto the back porch. Space was limited and she was starting to wonder if she'd be able to handle the severe lack of privacy!
Once breakfast was over, and the kitchen had been cleaned, everyone got back to "work". Doug and Val stayed inside with Marsha although Harry did stay outside to "supervise". Renee's husband Wilson and Doug's middle son Edward had both come over to help get things moved and rearranged and set up. Edward was decent enough with electrical stuff and so was Johnny. Today they were tasked with getting the garage wired up and ready for insulation to be put in. Noone was sure how long they would be living together but wanted to make sure they did things right in case they were here for the long-haul.
She had gotten busy with helping get the kids' rooms set up and arranged, leaving putting up the clothes & stuff to the kids. Well except for Dakota & Cole. Johnny said he'd get their things put up. Once their rooms were done, or as done as they were going to be for the time being, Lynn and Krista went outside to bring in more boxes. She sighed again realizing how much damned laundry they would be doing from now on! Everyone would have to pitch in for bills because they were going to be absolutely out of this world with so many people living in one house!
Edward, Wilson, Derryl, and Mark were busy moving furniture around. There was a whole helluva lot of furniture between the 4 houses! Val and Marsha primarily supervising where the furniture was going as they tried to use the most efficient pieces of everyone's furniture. Things would be quite eclectic but that was ok. They were all close to begin with so no one really minded. They had decided to just sell the stuff they didn't need or didn't want in a huge garage sale once everything had been moved in and set up. Whatever didn't sell they would donate to the local resale shop.
Around noon-ish Krista, Karol, and Lynn stopped so they could make sandwhiches for everyone. Krista made another 2 pitchers of some sweet tea knowing everyone would be thirsty. Doug asked her to go fetch Johnny to look at the ceiling fan in the living room. She made her way to where her new bedroom would soon be to find the man she'd been sent to fetch. He was quite adorable, especially when he so focused on what he was doing he didn't notice anything around him.
"Papa needs you to look at the fan in the living room real quick. And lunch is almost ready." She quickly told him
She found her natural shyness really coming out around him. Unless she was with Lynn. But when it was just her and him she discovered the words just didn't come easily. He looked up when he heard her voice.
"Ok. Thanks." Was all he replied as he stood up
She watched for a moment as he dusted himself off from the dust, dirt, and the little bit of insulation that still remained up there. Finally she turned and headed back into the house. She could hear him walking behind her but neither said a word to the other one. Once they entered the house, he went into the living room to talk with his great-uncle and check out the fan while she went to check on her tea.

RECAP: "Papa needs you to look at the fan in the living room real quick.
The tea was nearly ready so she got to work putting the sugar in the tea pitchers and putting some ice cubes in it to help cool it down quicker. Karol was getting the paper plates & things down while Lynn gathered up everyone who wasn't already in the house. Lettuce, onions & tomatoes had been sliced for the sandwhiches and the condiments had been placed on the counter by them. Several packages of lunch meat and bread were open and ready for the crowd to descend upon them. Krista was getting the plastic cups filled with ice when everyone made their way into the kitchen to get lunch.
She tried to watch him and found that he was probably one of the most respectful, polite people she'd ever met. Of course she also remembered a few things her step-father had told her but she still found herself intrigued by this tall red-head. She sat down with her sandwhich and chips and joined in the conversation her mother and Marsha were having about food and cooking. Lynn sat down close to the trio of women while Johnny, Wilson, Edward, Mark, Harry, and Derryl sat out in the lawn on various pieces of furniture and talked about either the race cars and racing or the work that still needed to be done.
There were still boxes everywhere and the kitchen table was cluttered with boxes, towels, dish towels, wash rags, 2 large packages of toilet paper, 2 large packages of paper towels, and cleaning supplies. There was still so much to be done that Krista didn't think they would ever be finished "getting things set up and organized". Of course it didn't help that she was surrounded by all these happy couples! She wanted someone to love her, to take care of her, to keep her company, to go do things with her and her daughter. She wanted someone she could look after, care for, talk with, and go do things with.
Oh well. There was no time to dwell on her personal problems. There was enough work to keep her busy for several days at the very least! Lunch ended all too quickly and it was time to get back to unpacking and putting things up. Doug's friend, part-time driver for his company, and go-to man for construction and flooring would be coming by sometime in the next few days to talk about where things were going to be expanding and where the second dishwasher & stoves would be going. And she didn't even want to think about how long it would be before the upstairs garage would be ready!
They had a laundry room and a pantry at the end of the very long hallway to put things in so today they would be filling them with extra towels, all paper products, the canned goods, unopened condiments and such that they had from all the houses. Val had gotten a shopping list going already for the things they would be needing very soon. Marsha had started a list of the things they would need most often and the things they would need to replenish every week. The eldest 2 women had realized they would need to coordinate the shopping and do the grocery shopping once a week. Marsha had explained they usually decided on what was for dinner each night of the month.
Val and Marsha discussed the idea of doing that for the household so they would know what they would need every week. It made sense, really, especially having to feed this large of a group. The 2 women began tossing ideas back and forth about dinner ideas and such. While the 2 women were chatting, Lynn, Karol, and Krista were putting up all the kitchen appliances, pots, dishes, bakeware and all other kitchen items. They were chatting about decorating their rooms. After about 2 hours the kitchen was in relatively good order.
They were in need of doing some grocery shopping but that would have to wait at least another day or 2. The next thing on the trio's agenda was moving in Karol & Derryl's belongings to their room. It was much smaller than what they were used to, even their old home wasn't all that big, but it was a sacrifice everyone was making. Each room would have to do their own unpacking except for Val and Doug. Being on the "older" side of the spectrum of course the younger generation would help with their unpacking.
Johnny entered the house which made Krista look up and watch him as he strolled into the living room. He spoke with Doug about wiring and other things about the garage. She couldn't help but watch his lean frame as he stood there explaining something to her step-father. The dust and dirt was all over him, even in the house he kept his sunglasses on hiding his brown eyes. His soft chuckle brought a quick smile to her face but she quickly returned to what she had been doing. She didn't want him to catch her staring at him.
She couldn't deny his attractiveness. Or how cute his laugh was. He didn't speak to her much except when she was passing a message or question along from her step-father or someone else. She was beginning to think he didn't like her. With that thought she was sure the roommate thing was going to be disastrous! Just the thought of him not liking her brought a great sadness over her. She found his little boys absolutely adorable and hoped that one day he would at least talk with her! Sighing to herself, she opened up a can of Dr. Pepper that she had bought and took a big sip. What hope did she have of receiving his affection?

What hope did she have of receiving his affection?
Shortly after he left to go back outside, her mother called to her. She was being tasked with going to Home Depot after some things Johnny and Edward needed for the garage. She sighed but wrote down everything she was being sent to get knowing she would probably forgot something if she didn't. Doug handed her a few bills so she could pay for her purchase before she grabbed her purse and Zune. She told Lynn where she was going and got a head nod in return since she was talking with Wilson, Renee, and Karol. She headed out to her 1999 green Dodge Ram that belonged to Doug's deceased Preacher nephew. She plugged her Zune up and scrolled through her "Rock" playlist until she found Rob Zombie.
With one last look at the house, she headed off to the next town over where the closest Home Depot was located. The trip would take maybe 20 minutes so she zoned out to her music and her thoughts of the tall red-head. She couldn't deny her attraction to him and wondered just how things were going to go when they were rooming in together. Would he ever talk to her in more than just very short sentences or 1-word answers?! 'I wonder just how soft his hair is?' she thought to herself with a smile.
She finally made it to her destination and parked. Grabbing her small, tan purse, then climbed out of the big truck and headed inside with the list she'd been given. At least it seemed like the rooms in the upstairs of the garage were actually getting done! She hated not having any privacy, although with having him sleeping in her room & bed too, she wouldn't have much privacy anyways. She sighed once more as she thought about how weird things were really going to be when they were sharing the most intimate of spaces in the house. Or garage as it were. An hour or so after she'd left her mom called asking where she was. Rolling her eyes she told her she was in line to check out and that she'd be home as soon as she could.
'Damn impatient people!' she thought to herself as she dug the money out that her step-father had given her. She drove quickly back to the house knowing there were people waiting on her. No matter what she thought about, her mind always seemed to go back to him. It drove her crazy but all she could do was let her mind wander. For now at least! Having parked she did her best to grab all the bags she had in her backseat. There were some things the guys would have to get out of her truck because she couldn't carry them. Mark and Wilson got the remaining items out of her truck while she placed the bags inside the garage.
She headed inside and was pleasantly surprised to discover Johnny was inside talking with Doug and her mother. She handed over the change and the receipt before letting them know where she'd placed the stuff she'd been sent to fetch. Johnny didn't even seem to acknowledge her presence. Finally, even though she could just stand there and listen to him talk about anything, she tore herself away to go help Lynn and Karol. She found the 2 women hauling bags into their respective bedrooms. Oh what fun moving was!
Before she knew it, it was time to get the children. Val decided to go alone so that Krista could stay behind and continue helping. She nodded as she walked outside with her mother. Johnny was getting ready to go pick up his kids too. She watched as he stood, sun beaming down on his tanned arms, sunglasses perched characteristically on his face, and chatted with Wilson and Edward. She definitely liked his lean frame but it was his eyes and smile that really got her. It was probably because she didn't get to see either of them very often! Biting the inside of her lip to keep from smiling, she slyly kept watching him since she had her own sunshades on which hid her eyes pretty well.
When he climbed into his truck, she turned and headed inside. Marsha and Lynn were discussing what to do for dinner. The ladies finally settled on making spaghetti since it was simple to make and pretty filling. Doug sent Krista and Lynn to the store to get all that they would need for dinner, as well as some things he wanted, handing over some bills for that. The ladies quickly hopped into Krista's truck and made their way to the local Wal-Mart. This was really the first actual meal they had made for the large group and Krista was a bit apprehensive about it. She wanted everyone to get their fill and not still be hungry. Especially since all the guys were doing some heavy work moving furniture and things around!

Especially since all the guys were doing some heavy work moving furniture and things around!
The ladies took off to do the shopping for dinner. They chatted about food, how the move was going, and when they thought their bedrooms would be completed. Johnny and Wilson were doing the best they could but they were already itching to have their own rooms again. Krista sighed right before Lynn's phone rang. As her friend chatted with whoever had called, her thoughts turned to what she always seemed to think about as of late. Johnny. She couldn't help but fantasize about him. Afterall she was more attracted to redheads than anyone else and he was absolutely gorgeous!
They came to the meat department so Krista began digging for some good-looking meat. She didn't want anything too fatty or old. She finally found about 8 pounds of decent looking, trim hamburger meat. Lynn was still on the phone so Krista wandered around to find the noodles. Trying to think of how much they would need, she decided on getting about 4lbs of noodles and approximately 8 big cans of spaghetti sauces. Not wanting to have to butter & season bread herself, she went to find some pre-made, heat-and-eat garlic bread. She grabbed about 8 packages of it hoping it would be enough!
As they were walking around, Val sent her a text asking them to pick up a few more things. Krista sighed again but knew this was bound to happpen. Lynn was finally off the phone so Krista explained what her mother had asked them to pick up. The ladies gathered everything they needed while they chatted about Johnny and what Doug had told Krista about him. The ladies talked about Johnny a little while longer before talking about their own relationships, or lack thereof in Krista's case, until they had returned home.
Mark helped the ladies get everything out of Krista's truck and into the house. Lynn had texted Karol when they left the store to see if she would get some pots & pans out and ready for dinner. They were still using paper plates, cups & plasticware until the second dishwasher had been installed. They were having to cook the meat first then everything else since there were only 4 burners and all 4 would be needed to cook the 8 pounds of hamburger meat. Lynn got busy doing her parents laundry while Krista got to work on dinner. Johnny had arrived back home with the 2 boys. The children were working on their homework before heading outside to play and run off their excess energy.
She had went outside to check on the kids, although there were quite a few adults outside, and to try and sneak a peek at the gorgeous red-head. She figured he'd be up in the garage working on their rooms but she was pleasantly surprised to see him standing by the fuel truck with Wilson and Edward. She looked on at the trio and noticed that when Johnny bent over she could get a glimpse of the white flesh of his stomach. The simple sight brought all sorts of naughty thoughts into her over-active imagination! She grinned then headed inside.
Stirring the hamburger meat she began to wonder how his lips would feel against hers. She took a deep breath as she went through the motions of making dinner. Karol drained the noodles. It took 2 pots to mix all the meat, noodles & sauce together but the ladies finally got it done. The bread was nearly done so Karol began getting all the paper ware ready for the crowd while Krista went to let everyone know dinner was done. Johnny didn't seem to notice her presence, at least she didn't think so, so she decided to wait until no one was talking in order to let them know. A few minutes later the conversation had come to an end, or at least a temporary hiatus, so she took the opportunity to let the guys know about dinner. Johnny finally acknowledged her presence and told her 'thanks'. She nodded and headed straight back into the house.
Lynn had gotten her parents' plates fixed while Karol had gotten Val and Doug's plates. She had started making the children's plates when Johnny, Derryl, Mark, Robert had entered the house, nearly being run over by the 5 children, which made most of the ladies laugh. Johnny immediately found his boys and got their hands washed for dinner. Lynn instructed her 2 boys to do the same in the bathroom which ajoined the "purple room" as it were called, while Krista had her daughter wash up in the hallway bathroom. By the time everyone had washed up, all the plates were made and ready to be passed out. The children were situated at the now-cleaned off kitchen table. Most of the adults headed back outside to eat.
Krista watched Johnny out of the corner of her eye. He seemed to have a complex either about eating in front of others or his teeth, she couldn't be sure which, but she found it slightly adorable. 'For someone so attractive, his shyness and obvious insecurities are kind of cute!' she thought to herself as she dug into her dinner. Wilson and Edward ate across the street at Wilson's house since Renee had made dinner for them. The guys talked about missing that week's race due to the move and getting things up and running. She sincerely hoped their rooms would be done soon. Lynn and Robert had slept, quite uncomfortably, on their boys' bed while the boys slept on pallets on the floor in their room. They all wanted their own space.
Once again, she couldn't help but let her mind wander to what it was going to be like having to room in with him. Was a neat freak? A slob? Did he snore? Did he move around alot at night? Would she bother him with how much she moved around at night? Would her habits bother him and vice versa? Oh she had so many questions about what things were going to be like and had no answers until they were actually rooming in together. She knew he didn't really like being so far away from his boys but there was no getting around it. His laugh caught her attention and she listened for a moment. He really did have a cute laugh!

The kids were allowed to play outside for a little while longer before being herded back inside to get a bath. Good thing there were 2 bathrooms with showers in them! Cheyenne would be the last to shower because Dean showered in the morning. The smaller children, being Cole, Dakota, and Thomas, would be showering first since they needed to be in bed first. The adults were trying to come up with a schedule since there were so many of them who needed to shower too!
As Krista was cleaning up the kitchen from dinner she began to think. Well more like fantasize.
It was a warm spring day. The sun was out, there weren't many clouds in the sky, and there was a light breeze blowing. She had brought out a glass of freshly made sweet ice tea since he'd been working on one of the race cars all morning by himself. Everyone else was either busy with other projects or weren't home. He thanked her with a smile as he took the plastic red glass from her. She watched out of the corner of her eye as he took a big drink before setting the cup down. He got back to work immediately but she saw no pressing need to head straight back into the house.
She stood around to watch him work. Neither said a word to the other for a while. She finally broke down and asked him what something was and why it was in the engine which made him chuckle softly. She stood outside with him for another half an hour before things really heated up. He was standing behind her as he had her helping him with things. She could feel his natural body heat. Just knowing he was this close to her made her heart speed up slightly. He was much taller than her, by 9 or 10 inches, so he had no problems speaking with her. It took her off guard slightly when he leaned over, nearly pressing his lips to her ear, to whisper in her ear.
She couldn't stop the smile that formed on her lips at what he had told her. They continued working for a little while until she felt him rest his left hand on her hip. She instinctively bit her lower lip. His hot breath and the whiskers of his goatee tickled her neck as he rested his chin on her shoulder. She was pressed against the bumper of the car and he was pressing up against her. She couldn't move. Suddenly she felt him run his hand down her right arm and realized just how excited he was too. He was pressing himself into her and she was fighting to keep from absolutely ravaging him right then and there!
His warm lips on her neck made her smile. She nearly moaned just from the contact! "Krista? Kristaaaaaaaaaa?" She suddenly heard Karol exclaim with a tone of amusement
"Huh?!" She asked
Karol laughed softly before telling her Val wanted to see her. The short woman sighed before drying her hands and moving into the living room. Her mother and step-father wanted to talk with her about moving into the garage apartment sooner than it would actually be ready. They wouldn't have much up there until it was done but at least they would have some "personal space" and not be sleeping in the living room. She eyed her parents suspiciously which made her step-father laugh heartily. He explained that tomorrow they would be putting in the insulation. They could move her king-sized bed up there for her, Johnny, & Lynn to sleep on at night since Robert worked all night. During the day Robert could sleep in their boys' room since construction would still be going on.
She thought about it for a few minutes before her mom stated that they would be more comfortable sleeping in her bed and that the construction would be completed in a few weeks at the very most. She sighed but agreed. After the insulation would come sheet rock then the final wall stuff. That was just the outside walls! Then there would come the walls that would separate the 2 bedrooms from the the small living room that would be created for them. There was another large space between the stairs and where the bedrooms & "living room" would be. Everyone agreed that would be used for "closet space" and a small bathroom.
Hell all they needed was a small kitchen and they'd all be set! She chuckled at the thought but definitely appreciated having at least a bathroom up there so they wouldn't have to bother the "big house" each time they had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night! Having the "living room" was cool too so they could just hang out, play cards or board games, video games, or whatever. She sighed just wanting all this damned construction complete so they could get into some sort of "normal" routine! Lynn had come into the living room and had joined in the conversation. After a few more minutes, Doug had called Johnny to come into the living room. Lynn went to fetch him.
He came into house a few minutes later. Doug told him everything he'd told Krista and asked what he thought. Krista took the opportunity to look up to guage his reaction. He seemed to be debating his options but finally agreed it was a good idea. He knew he would sharing Krista's bed when the rooms were completed. He knew they would be roommates. He didn't figure on having to share the bed with 2 women for a few weeks though! He took a moment to glance down at the short, raven-headed woman who would be his roommate. She looked nervous and unsure too. Did she not like him? Did she have a problem with him?
