You poor thing. When I used get shit back in highschool ( and this was in the nineties---totally dated myself now ) my mother told me rather unsympathetically, "Kids are cruel." And like you, I had a group of friends that put interesting spins on what I said. I ended up with about 3 in the end, none of which I talk to these days. I guess what I am trying to say is we have all been there, and I say this not to take away from the impact it is having on you, but to let you know that we will listen to your rants....hopefully it helps! And by the way....I got shit for everything from having a single mom ( she was 15 when I was born ), my wild, teased out hair ( look up the band Vixen circa 1990), total metal-chick clothes ( like the 6th member of Judas Priest) and dating the town Goth Guy who slept in a coffin. Big fight with my "friends" when one of them dumped him and we hooked up. Don't sweat it....they all get theirs in the end. I see it every so often when I pass them on the street....and I still look damn fine while they look like hell. I have a career and they just handed me fries through a drive thru. So be who you are unapologetically and cherish the few friends you have left, but remember ....you always have yourself. We're here for you.

Thank you so much. You really made me feel better. And like you said, i have aspirations and plan to do stuff with my life, and i study like hell, while they go out to discos and smoke and get boyfriends and shit..
I don't get shit about being a 'goth' that much, and i don't count myself as one. I wear black eyeshadow and eyeliner, i'm really pale (I'm anemic) and i have black and blood red hair. People assume i'm a Satinist, my favourite colour is black (Which it is) and that i listen to scary music (To other people, maybe). I don't mind people asking me about it, or whatever, but when people make assumptions.. EUGH! One girl (Who happens to be caught up in the middle of the argument) told me i scare her. What the Hell like?! And you know what else is weird? My best friend is the happiest person ever, and wears bright eyeshadow, and loves rainbows and pop music. I'm moody at times but i make people laugh and am always smiling apparently, i wear dark colours and i love metal..
Just wondering, were your parent's supportive of the way you dressed??
I prefer being a loner anyway. No-one judges me when i'm alone in my room.

Oh honey I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time ; ; "Kids are cruel" is a fucking understatement! Whoever said "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" was obviously in the popular crowd >.<
Words CAN hurt more than a physical attack, even if noone but you can see/feel it. I love the motto "it's better to be hated for who you are than loved for who you're not"!
I'm not sure if I can really say anything that'll make you feel better (I'd send you a nekkid Ville if I could though!). Just stay focused on reaching your goals and before long you'll be this successful, happy person who's looking at the people who are trying to stab you in the back right now through the drive-thru window! They'll be miserable and seeing you in all your successful, happy, well-rounded glory will just add salt to their wounds!! <3
And even though we're chatting through the internet, there are a few people here who are always willing to lend a cyber-ear

I'm so sorry, sweetheart. People just suck sometimes. You just "do you" and I PROMISE it will all work out in the end.
I was much like you in high school (I'm gonna give a Hell Yeah to Ladygeds right now, as I'm class of '93) I was a jeans and rocker t-shirt girl, got ALL kinda shit for it as I live in a small town in the southern US, so it automatically meant I was 1) on drugs 2) a slut and 3) that was pretty much it for me. In THEIR minds. The music understood me more than they EVER would, and, as Ladygeds said, I got my career going, I'm doing my thing, I'm happy with my life, and they aren't.
(Although my grandmother still swears to the slut/drugs thing...can't win them all...)
Just hang in there. Those that aren't there in the end don't deserve to be.

See....we got your back!
You could seriously be my kid sister...I preferred to be in my room, listening to music, not feeling the stinging slap of all the "he said, she said" and "OMG, she looks weird". My hair is really long...back in highschool it was layered all the way down to my ass. Because I dressed the way I did and because I had so much hair, people would sing the Addams Family theme and snap their fingers as I walked by...they called me Cousin It. Once I started dating the guy I told you about, my name got changed to Morticia.
My mom was not supportive of the way I dressed but I bought my own clothes once I got a job after school. I shredded and bleached my skin tight jeans ala Def Leppard (Rick Savage was so yummy back then!) and that pissed her off because she could see my ass cheeks (I got carried away) but mini skirts flipped her switch. I would try to leave the house with one and she would drop a pen on the floor and tell me to pick it up; if she could see my underwear I could not wear it. Needless to say, I got real creative with some limbo maneuvers. She kind of gave up about the time the leather bustiers and thigh high boots came into play. The silent agreement seemed to be as long as my grades were good, she would not bitch too much but she hated it. I was a walking advertisement for LipService, back in the day. One other thing I can say to you in terms of the future...the games and cliques continue into adulthood, even in the workplace. While I do have four really good pals I met at work, I still get my fair share of shit and it is always from other women. No bragging here, but I think it stems from the fact that the men in my department always talk to me, smile at me, save me a seat at the lunch table and ask me out for coffee. So be yourself, be an individual and you will be the coolest chick on the block. My mom did back me in terms of my "fuck 'em all" attitude. She raised me to be strong and self reliant.
....And while I hate the term "cougar", I am 37 and my past two dates have been 25. I do not see any of my former "friends" pulling that off these days.....so in essence, find your joy factor and remember: LIVING IS THE BEST REVENGE.

Oh my God, Tab....where have you been all my life? I graduated in 1992. Even my friends thought I was odd for the music I was into and the way I dressed....I wasn't going to let (hair) metal die without a fight, I flew the flag until grunge smothered us all. I still go out to see my "boys" on tour...you know, it gets easier to meet them now that they are grateful for every fan that shows up, lol. I did some ridiculous stuff to meet bands back in the day...no, not THAT! I saved that for a targeted member...never wasted it on a roadie. It takes me back and makes me a little sad, too that young'uns still fight the same fight, just trying to find themselves and be themselves. I was happy to have the music there as an outlet. It got me through so much and it still does.

Oh ain't that the truth! I walk around on the weekends (because I try to look professional but cool during week as I'm out being an Avon lady) with bondage pants and band tees and still get weird looks from people!
Living really is the best revenge. And I've discovered that just because you're alive, doesn't mean you're living! If people can't accept for who you are then they're not worth your breath/time/energy on! Keep your chin up girl, you've cyber friends!

Mistress Angie---if my Avon lady dressed that way, I might buy more stuff! My day job has me in career wear and in my off hours, most people are surprised with the omni-present boots, jeans with studs and concert shirts. Best comment yet: "You always have the coolest vintage concert t's...did you borrow them from your mom?"

My parent's are hypocrites. My mam was a headbanger back in the day when it was extreme, used to pierce her own ears (and other people's), dyed her hair mad colours, and even snipped off loads of her own hair to make a mullet for a friends hair. My dad was a mod (that speaks for itself) and they hate the way i dress and look. I don't go too extreme, i just wear black clothes, converse and eyeshadow, but they always tell me it's too much, i look terrible, i'm much prettier without it ect. My brother HATES it, he even disowns me infront of his friends blah blah blah. My other brother doesn't really care, he has an open mind. And what's weird is, my mam's parents absolutely hated when she dressed the way she did, the even grounded her when she wore black and stuff, but they don't say anything to me, they even tell me i look nice sometimes! Weird.. Anyway, thanks for being there guys. ;D

Anywhoo, I hope your feeling better

Razorblade, if you haven't already, check out Piggy D's song "For My Revenge". Totally thinking of you right now.
My mother is funny because she actually listens to Hair Nation more than I do now, and she's 70 years old! Every once in a while I'll get a call though "You listened to THIS when you were 14?"
"Yep, and how bout them straight A's, eh?"
My grandmother is a whole 'nother ballgame. My mom is the oldest of four, had five kids, adn we were all raised to take responsibility for our actions. We fuck up, we face the consequences. Same for her grandkids. Her siblings? Not so much. One of her brothers as a son that seriously...dude's pushing 50 and don't think he's ever had a job in his life. He's right now living under her roof with his two kids because the girl he was mooching off off kicked him out.
Yet I am the bad grandchild. I'm 36, never married, no children, have pretty much taken care of my elderly parents for as long as I can remember, went to college right after high school, got my first job the day after I got my diploma, never taken drugs, my only vice being my music...and I'm the bad one.
Here's the reason...eleven years ago, I joined a chat room for KISS fans and met some cool people. We chatted so much and some of us lived in driving distance, so we decided to meet. One is a guy, married with a now 16 year old son. One is a female, married, two pre-teen children, and one is a single guy. Our little "family" gets together as many times as we can (the single guy lives 3000 miles away so a little harder for him). We get together for concerts, for family vacations, for holidays, they even drove down to be with me when my mother was diagnosed with cancer (of which she's kicking ass). It's seriously like a family - I think nothing of rooming with the single guy, he thinks nothing of rooming with me. For the past eleven years, I've had three great brothers, two great sisters, and three little ones I've had the pleasure of watching grow up. But according to rumors spread by my own FAMILY..it's just an all-out orgy.
Still think that's not as bad as mooching off an elderly woman cause I'm too lazy to get a job but OH well.
Next orgy is next month at an Alice Cooper concert and I'm excited.

I shall! I adore Alice and his live shows. You have the theatrics, then you have the extreme hotness he hires to play behind him.
